Tantra Coffee House to Host Mr. Fest Opening Show
SAN MARCOS, Texas, April 19, 2012 -- Tantra Coffee House will be hosting
the first performance of KTSW 89.9's 5th annual Mr. Fest music festival
Thursday, April 26.
The
show is free and open to the public, will begin at 8 p.m. and will be headlined by the one-man funk group,
Henry + the Invisibles. The show will also feature performances from Equals,
Stegasaurus Lips, and Oh Look Out. The show, like the entire festival, will be a
celebration of music from the San Marcos/Austin area.
Henry
+ the Invisibles have played many shows in the San Marcos area and are a great
fit to kick off Mr. Fest. They’re known for their high energy live performances
and unique presentation. Henry + the Invisibles describe their sound as “Sly &
the Family Stone meets James Brown meets Jimi Hendrix meets Prince."
Tantra will also be hosting another Mr. Fest showcase on the
following Saturday. The show will begin at 3 p.m. and the headliner will be Austin
based singer-songwriter HalleyAnna. The show will also feature The Victory
March, Whistle & Fish, Andy Barham & the Good Prevails, The Bellmen and
Tantra regular Victor Holk. Holk will also be playing a free show tonight at Tantra.
HalleyAnna
has been writing and performing for over ten years and formerly hosted KTSW’s “The
Otherside of Americana” radio program. She plays country music heavily
influenced by the Americana/Texas sound. HalleyAnna has opened for acts such as
Hayes Carll and Todd Snider.
"What we do is very much about community." said Adam Lilley, manager of Tantra, "It's very much about local sustainability as far as promoting local culture and feeding into the local system."
Opened almost six years ago by, the Tantra Coffee House is dedicated to building a strong community within San Marcos. Located at the corner of West Hopkins St. and Comanche St., Tantra hosts weekly live shows including Open Mics that help bring together San Marcos' artistic community. They are the only business in town that proudly boasts an outdoor music venue.
